My Mag Loop Undressed

Below is my MFJ mag loop which developed a fault. I noticed that my antenna socket was loose on the antenna and when I tried to connect my coax it was going open circuit and was not tuning  at the control box end. Obviously this needed sorting out so I stripped it down to the bear minimum see photo below.

I noticed that the solder to the center pin of the socket had also cracked. presumably due to the stress of having a loose socket. Which by the way, was due to 1 of 2 securing bolts working itself loose.

After correcting the solder joint and finding a suitable bolt and nut, which was a task I could have done without. I had sorted through my own supplies and found "narda" The replacement came from B&Q of all places!. Now happy I had to check the resistance which should show minimum of 600 ohms at the feed point. Needless to say I am happy with my readings above.

All back together and now in use again You can see my Clansman radio on the floor at the side of the table. This was monitoring 4m whilst i was working on the loop. I intend to write a review of the Mag loop in the future.
